WERIGO SAGA Episode 5: The Visitor

COLD OPEN. Canggu, tonight. A colossal pillar of golden light rises over the rice fields, golden rings across the sky.

• SFX: DOOOON.
• SYSTEM (gold): ! WORLD ANNOUNCEMENT · A VISITOR HAS ENTERED THE ISLAND.

PANEL 1. Four close-ups, four places, the same light.

• DEWA: A visitor. First one in three years.
• SEKAR: Then someone has to find her before the petrol queue does.
• KOMANG (shouting): What's a visitor?!
• ARYA (thought): ...Who is she?

• CAPTION: Melbourne. Eleven days earlier.

PANEL 2. 2 AM, grey rain on the window. Chloe at a glowing monitor, empty coffee cups, a dusty sketchbook.

• CHLOE (thought): When did I last draw something just for fun?
• SYSTEM (grey, unseen): STATUS · Fatigue: MAX · Fun: 0
• CAPTION: Something was already watching. She just couldn't see it yet.

PANEL 3. Jake holds up two boarding passes.

• JAKE: Bali. Seven days. No laptops.
• CHLOE: ...Deal.

PANEL 4. Arrival at the airport. A wall of heat.

• SFX: FWUMP!!
• CHLOE: It's like opening an oven.
• SYSTEM (grey): DEBUFF · Tropical heat

PANEL 5. The villa pool. Chloe floats, eyes closed.

• CHLOE (thought): Okay. This I can do.

PANEL 6. Day one. A roadside stall with a row of tired petrol scooters.

• STALL OWNER: Scooter? Cheap cheap! Full tank!

PANEL 7. Close-up. The fuel needle on E, a faint cursed glow.

• SYSTEM (grey): ITEM: RENTED SCOOTER · Rarity: CURSED · Fuel: LIES
• JAKE: "Full tank," he said.

PANEL 8. Chloe's scooter dies in the middle of a busy intersection. A truck bears down.

• SFX: PUTT... PUTT... PFFT. / HOOONK!!
• CHLOE (shouting): No no no, not in the middle of the road!
• SYSTEM (grey): DEBUFF · Stalled

PANEL 9. The endless petrol queue, framed like a dungeon gate.

• SYSTEM (grey): DUNGEON: THE PETROL QUEUE · Wait: 40 min · Boss: The heat
• CHLOE (thought): Nobody told me holidays had queues.
• ATTENDANT: Regular or premium?
• CHLOE: ...Yes?

PANEL 10. A cloud of exhaust in Chloe's face.

• SFX: KOFF KOFF!!

PANEL 11. Jake pushes his dead scooter along the kerb, surfboard strapped on.

• JAKE: I came here to surf, not to do cardio.

PANEL 12. Evening, both sunburnt on the villa steps.

• CHLOE: Day one. Zero beaches.
• JAKE: One petrol station. Twice.
• SYSTEM (grey): DEBUFF · Sunburn LV.3

PANEL 13. Day two, 8:40 AM. A Canggu cafe. Chloe with an iced latte, defeated.

• CHLOE (thought): Maybe we just... stay in the villa.
• CAPTION: Then the street went quiet.

PANEL 14 · FULL PAGE. Slow motion. Arya on his olive Athena and Sekar on her pink Athena glide past. No sound. The latte doesn't even ripple.

• CHLOE: ...Did those just go past? I didn't hear a thing.
• SFX: TING.
• SYSTEM (gold): [SIGNAL DETECTED]

PANEL 15. Sekar glances back with a knowing smile.

• CHLOE: This one. It's small, it's cute, and it's yellow. I'm done choosing.

PANEL 18. Jake and the navy EdPower, lightning aura.

• JAKE: I'm 29. Finally, being old pays off.
• SYSTEM (gold): [REQUIREMENT MET]

PANEL 19. The booking request: Athena yellow, EdPower navy, 7 days at the weekly rate, delivery to the villa in Canggu. "Weekly rate estimate. Final price confirmed on WhatsApp."

• CHLOE: Seven days. Let's actually have a holiday.

PANEL 20. WhatsApp with Werigo.

• CHLOE: Hi! Can we get 2 bikes for 7 days from tomorrow? We're staying in Canggu. My boyfriend wants the big one.
• WERIGO: Hi Chloe! Both bikes are free. We'll bring them to your villa tomorrow at 9, charged and ready. Helmets and phone holders are included.
• CHLOE: Do we need to find a charging station?
• WERIGO: We'll show you tomorrow. Mostly you just charge at the villa while you sleep.
• CHLOE: ...While we SLEEP??

PANEL 21. They hand the petrol scooters back.

• STALL OWNER: No refund for petrol!
• JAKE: What petrol?

PANEL 22 · CLIFFHANGER. That night. Chloe in bed. A golden window appears above her phone, not on it.

• SYSTEM (gold): ! VISITOR DETECTED · Name: CHLOE · Pass: 7 DAYS · Activation: TOMORROW, 09:00
• CHLOE: ...What app is this?

PANEL 23. A rooftop in Canggu. The guild watches the pillar of light.

• KOMANG (shouting): It's her?! The sunburnt one?!
• DEWA: The island chose her.
• ARYA: So who's delivering tomorrow?
• DEWA: You are.
• SFX: DOOOON.
• SYSTEM (gold): VISITOR PASS · Activating...
